We are still buzzing from the incredible experience of Photo Fair Africa 2019, held on 23–24 May at the Hertford Country Hotel in Johannesburg. As the Tazzmatic Photography team, we live for moments that combine learning, creativity, and connection, and this event delivered all three in abundance. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that Photo Fair Africa is more than just an event, it is a celebration of photography in all its forms. The atmosphere was electric, with photographers of every skill level mingling, sharing ideas, and soaking up inspiration. The hum of conversation, the clicking of shutters, and the buzz of creativity filled every corner of the venue. The programme was packed with live talks, hands on workshops, and shooting opportunities with professional models. Whether you were there to refine your technical skills or to reignite your creative spark, there was something for everyone.

Learning from the Best

One of the highlights for us was the chance to learn directly from some of the top photographers in the industry. The live talks covered everything from camera settings and lighting techniques to creative direction and business insights. We were privileged to hear from Brett Florens, Robbie Aspeling, Natalie Field, Mohamed Abdelwahab, Garreth Barclay, Michael Tucker, Emma O’Brien, and Yolandi Jacobsz. Each brought unique perspectives that left us inspired and motivated to push our own craft further.

Networking and Community

Photography can sometimes feel like a solitary pursuit, but Photo Fair Africa reminded us of the power of community. We met so many passionate, talented photographers, exchanged stories, and built connections that we know will last well beyond this event. It was inspiring to see such a supportive, vibrant network of creatives coming together to celebrate our shared love for the craft.

Of course, no photography event is complete without stunning subjects to photograph, and the models at Photo Fair Africa were nothing short of breathtaking. We had the pleasure of working with Natasha Bouma and Jencey, whose presence and energy brought each frame to life.
