That is exactly how it felt when I had the chance to capture Carina and her son Matthew at home, in their garden, and later at a nearby park. What began as a simple family photo shoot in Johannesburg turned into a day filled with laughter, learning, and even a little comedy of errors on my part.
At Home with Carina and Matthew
The session began indoors, with Carina getting ready, a soft buzz of excitement in the air. She moved between her makeup table and wardrobe, picking outfits that reflected her personality, elegant yet approachable, timeless yet playful. Matthew wasn’t about to be left out. He joined in with cheeky grins, curious questions, and the kind of energy only a child can bring. Watching him hover around his mom, sometimes offering help with her makeup or suggesting which dress she should wear, was a reminder of how natural and close their bond is.
