Photographing Juliani, my colleague’s daughter, just before she and her family embarked on an exciting new chapter, was exactly that. Juliani’s infectious energy filled the room almost instantly. Within minutes, she was laughing, twirling, and flashing the kind of genuine smiles that cannot be staged. I found myself kneeling and even crawling across the floor to capture her from every playful angle. Her mom, my colleague, was right there beside us, offering gentle encouragement and sharing in the fun. Watching her guide Juliani with such warmth and pride was a reminder of why I love candid child portrait sessions so much. It is not just about the portraits, it is about the connection, the unspoken love, and the little in between moments that tell the real story.

What amazed me most was that Juliani had just woken up from a nap before our session. You would never have guessed it. Instead of grogginess, she brought a vibrant, playful spirit that lit up every frame. As the session unfolded, Juliani’s mom joined in for a few portraits. These turned into some of my favourite images of the day, tender, joyful, and full of love.
